Our goal with vaccinations is to activate a puppy’s immune system with vaccine exposure before they are introduced to the illness with no immunity. The typical schedule for puppy vaccinations is at 8, 12 and 16 weeks old.
What vaccinations do you provide to new puppies?
The first vaccination your new puppy will receive is DA2PP (Distemper, Adenovirus, Parvovirus and Parainfluenza) one of their core vaccinations. They will often get this with the breeder at or before 8 weeks of age. This particular vaccine will be boostered again at their 12 week visit and 16 week visit.
In addition to the DA2PP vaccine, your puppy can receive its Lyme, leptospirosis and Bordetella vaccines at their 12 week appointment if that is what you and the veterinarian decide. Their Rabies vaccine can be given at their 16 week appointment.[/answer]
Why is it important to vaccinate your puppy?
Vaccination is the easiest way to protect your new puppy from preventable diseases. It strengthens their immunity, so they do not get sick if they are exposed to a particular illness.
At what age should I bring my puppy for their vaccinations?
Ideally, the puppy will receive vaccines at 8, 12, and 16 weeks of age.
How should I prepare my puppy for their first vaccination visit?
Play with your puppy’s feet, ears, tail, and their mouths often. Get them used to having all of those places touched, so it isn’t brand new to them when the veterinarian does it. Doing this throughout your puppy’s life will also help make vet visits, nail trimming, ear cleaning and general grooming much easier as they grow!
